Life Is Beautiful

They still work

Today was amazing weather. Not hot, sweltering, and unbearable like it has been for the past few months. I made a conscious effort to ignore all work and clients this long weekend. Took some extra time with the kids and quietly celebrated with Doug. Yesterday was also great. After a summer hiatis from running I decided it was time to strap on the shoes and the MP3 player and see if there was anything left in me. I thought I would only make it a few kilometres, but actually managed 6. It was sunny along the lakeshore, but a little crowded as it was the weekend with the airshow. It was kinda cool running with the jets above me, however I was not able to keep up with them....... for 38 glorious minutes the music blocked out all the noise in my brain and for a while I actually forgot about all the suffering along the Gulf Coast, my looming work week, and the mad scramble to get the kids settled back into school this week. We topped the evening off with our annual end of summer party with many neighbours.. It was special and joyous and nice to have everyone back in the city again.
There was more celebrating today with a house-warming up the street with some amazing friends who have finally purchased in our neighbourhood...... I am surrounded by wonderful people. Thanks to all of you who hung with me this summer. Special thanks to Q and R. for being my glue this past quarter. We shall raise a glass at the upcoming stitch-and-bitch.

not my cake
Today my husband and I celebrate our wedding anniversary. This is not a photo of our cake. We didn't have a cake, or a priest, or attendants. Hey, there was no church. No wedding march. No rubber chicken or speeches. In fact, there were very few in attendance. What we did have, however, was.....
a car accident
a torrential storm
bottle of fine scotch
a best friend
our beautiful daughter...
One of our "wedding" photos shows me playing twister with a lampshade on my head. Despite our crazy elopement, we have made it to year twelve. Now, if I can wake Doug up from his nap on the couch, he may actually take me out for dinner.
It's been a nice adventure Doug - I love you (even if you do wear girl pants)

Okay - it is an old picture, but I love this one. Summer is almost over. It just flew by. Although it wasn't the summer I was hoping for, and there were some real lows, I gotta say there were some incredible highs. Bobo learned to swim this summer. I have the 12 foot crop circle left in my backyard by the whitetrash pool to prove it. He also now rides a bike with no training wheels. It was definitely his summer. And Little Frankie? Well, she is just always great. I got about a million big fat smiles out of her this summer, as well as some great late night cuddles in front of the TV. She is slowly slipping from me and just months away from being an official "teenager". Her last year of grade school represents Bobo's first official one in grade one. I have to see how much more fun I can squeeze out of them before school starts in the next two weeks. The exhibition is in town, so I suspect that will be our next big activity. I am looking forward to work slowing down, and celebrating Chim Chim's wedding in San Fran..........

No Fear
It has been such a busy time, that lately I have been losing track of some of the better things in my life. Unfortunately, the summer that was to be a vacation just didn't transpire. Instead there has just been a lot of drama and crap surrounding me these past few weeks.. On Thursday I just decided none of it mattered. I turned off the phone, grabbed my kids (plus one), and headed to Ontario Place for the day. No words can possibly describe how great it was. It was one of those magical days when
a) your kids are angels
b) all food tastes good
c) the heat doesn't matter
d) all strangers are friendly and polite
We were having such a blast, I gave my kids the option of either the paddle boats, or perhaps a helicopter ride. They wisely picked the helicopter. I guess it just never occurred to me that strapping a five-year-old kid in the front of a bubble that is being propelled by a ceiling fan was a bad idea? Once we were in the air there was no turning back. It was 15 minutes of pure exhilaration. As soon as we landed, Mr. Bobo asked if we could go on the log ride. Perhaps he will talk about it when he is in therapy in 10 years. Aren't kids just the best toys in the world? Well, that and my American Express.

I was at a gathering last night and someone mentioned my blog, and the lack of postings these past many months. It is not that I have forgotten, there was just little time. Last year was a whirlwind. I trained (surreptitiously) for the Dublin Marathon in October. It took up lots of my time (and energy). Somehow in-between I was still able to do my walkway, frame and finish my basement and maintain somewhat of a family life. Something had to give..... it was this blog. I told myself this morning I would make more of an effort to update it. We will see how it goes. I have seen so many things I have wanted to post, but alas never had a camera on hand. Today I will share two photos. The first is a little bit of my workshop.... it has become my second home these days. The second is of my mini van. I just needed everyone to know what a stellar parker I am. Parking is limited on my street, so you must be wily (why lee?) and try to fit in any space you can. Two older ladies stood on the sidewalk laughing and cheering as I pulled that one off. A big hello to everyone out there again, and a big thanks to everyone who helped me through last year and made it so stellar. I am blessed.

Hey Badda Boom Badda Bing
We just came from supper at what I suppose is popular restaurant chain. We only went because my son likes to sit on the vespa in the lobby. I felt it was better then cooking supper on a muggy Sunday night and at least we could have alchohol and there wouldn't be frickin' toy at the end of the meal.
The Vespa was gone
The Bloody Caesar was watered down with an old limp bit of celery in it
My pasta didn't quite taste as good at a microwavable Michealena (sp?)
Couldn't eat the salad 'cause there was mountains of salad dressing on it
They gave us a toy at the end of the meal (it will be in a landfill in a week)
Oh well. I think Doug enjoyed his beer - but hey, when is beer not great?

I live beside Homer Simpson
Hello All,
I know I have been absent for awhile. I have been busy with work and life and my next door neighbour. His latest escapade was to smash up the cement beside our houses causing flooding in my basement. We don't talk much anymore, but thankfully I can still have lots of fun at his expense. I am trying to get a picture of his Ford Bronco.... i will try to post it next week. Thought everyone might enjoy some recent photos of his yard. It has gotten a little better in the past few weeks, but not much. I thought his wife's attempt at sprucing things up with the plastic floral arrangement was a nice touch. Try to find the plastic owl faced-down in the dirt. The "barn" photo is a little shed he started building over a year ago. I'm not sure if he is finished. I think the plastic chair is sitting on the sand so he can pretend he is "King Of The World". I'm pretty sure he is off his medication this month.

End of Vacation
Well, we are heading back to the cold north. We had a great trip. It was nice have Margie and Becca along, and great spending some quality time fighting with parents over the tab. Max was amaxing in the pool, and Frankie was just all around amazing. I will miss the bike-rides in the sun and morning coffee by the pool. The 9:30 beer and hot tub will also be hard to leave behind, but alas, we must get home to the fish.....

A day of bad hair and track suits
Note to file: if the theme park is a) owned by a beer company and b) they play the them song to Deliverance at the entrance, you can pretty much be guaranteed you are going to experience some pretty extreme mullets and obesity throughout the day. All in all, it was fun. The kids were in great moods and not at all needy. They tolerated the line-ups by spending quality time with their candy, and we tolerated them by spending quality time with our lattes and much laughter. Sat beside a family a lunch that clearly shared the same pair of teeth but opted to leave them at home, lest they lose them on the Python. The lady who hit her child on the head at the picnic table and then forced all the kids to kneel and say the lords prayer was the real high-light of the day - well, that and the couple with the matching "Look at me, I'm Ernest T" t-shirts. I actually thought they were father and daughter until I saw him stick his tongue down down her throat - maybe just her uncle. Did I mention the corn-dogs were $65.00? A true culinary delight.

Life Is A Beach
The weather is great, but I am as red as a lobster, despite many layers of sunblock. It is so much fun watching the kids on the beach. Mr. Bobo is suffering a severe case of plumbers butt and Frankie is as brown as a coffee bean. Not many pics of Doug, as he has been very busy golfing. Perhaps we might see him today? Bobo is also learning to ride a bike... alas it is pink, but at least it matches his toy vacuum and hair-dryer.
